Adults

If You are over 20 and seeking new challenges why not join a London Wing Squadron as an adult volunteer.?

We can help you to develop skills, leadership qualities and gain qualifications as well as great experiences too?2009-11-08-05

In London Wing, we help our adult volunteer staff to meet the challenges of today and make plans for the future as well as having fun while they are doing it.

As the backbone of our Wing we’re always on the look out for individuals who want to become adult volunteers, helping to run the activities that play such an important part in the lives of young Londoners.

Our volunteer staff are from wide and varied backgrounds each bringing different but equally important skills and interests. Specific qualifications are not required as we will train and support you at every stage.

You will need to have some important personal qualities that are essential, such as patience, maturity and responsibility along with an understanding of young people and their needs. You needn’t be an athlete, but a good level of physical fitness also helps to ensure you can keep up with the cadets!

We rely on our volunteers to help us operate as effectively as possible. As well as practical skills, being well organised is an obvious must, ideally with good managerial and administrative skills, and an ability to listen to problems and deal with them tactfully and appropriately.

Ultimately we are keen to help develope adult volunteer staff into uniformed volunteer roles, taking on more img_3363_1responsibility and moving up through the ranks as an Non-Commissioned Officer or Commissioned Officer.

First you have to join the Wing as a Civilian Instructor and then after successful completion of the London Wing Staff Development Course as well as a period of time working on a Squadron helping young people, you will have a number of selection interviews at both with a staff officer at local levbel whose job it is to help and encourage you as well as with Staff Officers at London Wing Headquarters in Old Brompton Road and London and South East Region Headquarters at RAF Northolt, if you are applying to be a Commissioned Officer.

Jenny Nixon - The Big Jump! No going back now!We will guide you through the process, helping you every step of the way…if you have the potential to become a uniformed member of staff, whether it be an Non-Commissioned Officer in the Air Training Corps or an Officer in the Training Branch of the RAF Volunteer Reserve we’ll spot it!

Read more from the Air Cadet Orgainisation website about opportunities if you want to join us as a Civilian Instructor, Civilian Gliding Instructor or Chaplain.

Everyone has an important part to play in the London Wing of the Air Training Corps.
